Pancakes, Skating and Triumph

Saturday, February 26, 2011 was a busy day for some of the South Philly Striders.  We met for the scheduled 8 am run at Front and South.   A few of us (me, John E, Justin R., Kristin and Lev) continued to run past Penn Treaty Park.   We continued on to support the Fishtown Fangs soccer team who were having a pancake fundraiser.  The fundraiser was held at Applebee’s on Delaware and Aramingo Avenues.    Sarah J a Fishtown Beer Runner and South Philly Strider is one of the coaches for the Fishtown Fangs.  It was a wonderful fundraiser event and the pancakes were good.

Tina D and Elizabeth C organized a fun social event for the afternoon and evening.   We met at the Blue Cross River Rink at 3 pm for an afternoon skating session.   I had not been on skates in at least 30 years.   I was at least not alone several others had not been on skates in years.   Lev admitted to us he had never been on skates.   Congratulations to Lev for having the courage to put on a pair of skates and get out on the ice.   Thanks to Kristin’s friend Meredith an excellent skater for keeping Lev upright.   Amanda brought her nieces and boyfriend Charlie to the rink.  Everyone had a fun time.

After skating we walked to Triumph Brewery in Old City.   We had the upstairs bar area. We did attract more South Philly Striders to the bar than the skating rink!  It was a very nice evening after a morning of pancakes and afternoon of skating.
